9/11 video

I spend some time, every 9/11, remembering that day. Those of you who know me, know I was very close to Ground Zero. So was my brother, and my friend, Matt. We were luckier than many, as we made it out, alive. Matt and I were fortunate to be out of the area before the first tower collapsed. My brother, while swallowed up in that debris, made it out relatively unharmed. I wrote about my experience one month after the attack. The writing is still on my incredibly out-dated Web site.
The picture above leads to a 30-minute video that wasn’t released until this year. It is unedited and is amazing. The footage was shot through a window, 36 floors up and about 500 yards from the North Tower. If you have the time, watch it. If you don’t, still watch it.

Eban,

I watched this video last night, and I find some things that are fishy. Did your video hiccup when the 2nd plane hit? It is good footage, but it isn’t quite how my brain remembered. They seem to be shooting the video from roughly the same angle that we had that day.

The video did hiccup, in a few places. It still seems pretty accurate to me, though. The angle is a bit closer to the water than we were when the second plane hit. The building we were in when the first plane hit was to the North of the WTC plaza, so the angle was even more different. It’s hard to say, really. Shock will play funny tricks to memory. I just don’t see how they could’ve faked this.
