OK. I know I haven’t written anything in a while. I’m way backed up on stuff. I have a couple of sonograms pics from the beginning of October that I haven’t scanned in and posted yet. I’ll get to those, this weekend.
This, however is too funny. If you are a movie buff, or just like parodies, then you really should check out Angry Alien. In a nutshell, this site has 30-second summaries of popular films — performed by bunnies. I don’t know why I find these funny. I just do.

I’ve had several requests for an unobstructed view of the background photos. So, I’ve created a Flickr photo set of the pics. Click on the Background Photos link in the sidebar.

We had another great doctor’s appointment, today! So far, everything seems to be going fine. The doctor had some difficulty finding the baby’s heartbeat with the pocket Doppler, though. So, she brought in a portable sonogram and took a look, that way.
We didn’t get to hear the heartbeat, which was a bummer. However, we got to see the baby. It was funny, because his arms and head were moving back and forth like he was waving, or dancing. Click on the picture below for a better look.

Based on several requests, I’ve posted the piece I wrote one month after 9/11. I’d redirect you to my Web Page, but it’s embarrasingly out of date (2002). If you’d like to read it, click on the link to the right that says, “9-11, Never Forget”. Matt also wrote a post, as I expect a lot of people did. His has some excellent pictures showing just how close we were.
I always said we were a block and a half away when the first plane struck. I now know we were much, much closer.

I spend some time, every 9/11, remembering that day. Those of you who know me, know I was very close to Ground Zero. So was my brother, and my friend, Matt. We were luckier than many, as we made it out, alive. Matt and I were fortunate to be out of the area before the first tower collapsed. My brother, while swallowed up in that debris, made it out relatively unharmed. I wrote about my experience one month after the attack. The writing is still on my incredibly out-dated Web site.
The picture above leads to a 30-minute video that wasn’t released until this year. It is unedited and is amazing. The footage was shot through a window, 36 floors up and about 500 yards from the North Tower. If you have the time, watch it. If you don’t, still watch it.

There was a time when Spam was a good thing. Well, good if you liked that sort of thing. But, it was strictly the name of a meat product that was good for feeding our troops — good for providing nutrition to families on a budget. Not to mention the “national dish” of Hawaii.
Then, along came the Internet and email. As with many things, the Internet adopted the word, “Spam” to its own venacular. Suddenly, “Spam” was a word to identify “the abuse of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited, undesired bulk messages” (Wikipedia).
It used to be that Spam came from signing up from things on the Internet. Sending an eCard, signing up for a newsletter, etc. were sure-fire ways to get your name on unwanted mailing lists. However, Spammers have stepped up their game. Auto-generating email listed — based on domain — or harvesting addresses from Web pages are just a few of the tactics they use.
I’m finally fed up. I no longer want to keep changing my main email address, just to clear out my mail box. Forwarding messages to ISP’s and the Government doesn’t seem to help at all. The folks at SpamItBack.com seem to have a good shot at making a difference in the war on Spam.
Their software allows you to join other users in bombarding known Spammers with messages letting them know you do not appreciate their activities. It creates extra traffic to their Web sites. It fills their mail boxes. The more people that install and use the software, the more effective it will be.
It kind of reminds me of the SETI@Home project, and other distributed computing projects. Using many computers for the benefit of mankind….

We heard the most amazing sound, today. Well, two amazing sounds. We had an appointment with the doctor to check up on the baby. While we were there, the doc pulled out a pocket doppler. The geek in me thinks that is too cool.
She used the doppler to let us hear the fetus’ heartbeat. I’d heard that sound several times, on shows, but there’s something special when it’s your own child’s. All of a sudden, we heard a small thump come from the device. The doctor told us it was a kick. Once again, too cool.
The report was all good. The heartbeat is good and strong.

OK, I know I said I was going to write about our family vacation in this post. However, I changed my mind. There’s two reasons: (1) I have family waiting to see this picture. (2) I’m hoping to post some pics of the trip we took. I have yet to find a convenient way to post a gallery of pics with the software I’m using for this blog. I’ll work on that, this week.
Click on the pic for a bigger view
Anyway, about the upcoming baby. We’re expecting on/about March 6. We went for a sonogram on July 28. So far, the baby is developing right on target. He is the right size and his heartbeat is right on track. Edit - We don’t know the gender, yet. I used he, in the generic sense. I just got tired of calling him, “it”.
We’re exploring names, now. We have a short list. I’ll post it, when I can find it.

This is a blog I’ve set up for news and views regarding my family and my life. I have to admit, the look of the blog is, basically, a free template I downloaded. However, the background pictures are mine. I took them on a family trip we took to Portugal and Spain. The whole trip was a surprise for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. I’ll write more about that, in the next post. Click on the little boxes above, to the left, to see other backgrounds.
Update…
My wife took the first pic I’m using for the background. The one of the pink flower. My Dad took the sixth picture…. The statue, in the plaza, with the scaffolding around it.
